Digital transformation brings with it profound demands regarding data protection, data control, and governance. Particularly in regulated industries or in companies with sensitive workloads, the question of where and how data is processed—both technically and organizationally—is becoming increasingly important.
PROTOS views the sovereign cloud not as a dogma, but as a strategic extension of its portfolio for anyone with specific regulatory, technical, or corporate policy requirements for their cloud infrastructure.

The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is currently being established, with its first home region in Brandenburg. It is designed as a technically and organizationally independent cloud partition—for companies that prioritize the highest standards of data sovereignty and control.
With the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, companies in Germany and Europe will soon have the opportunity to use cloud services that natively (or built-in) meet all regulatory requirements. From the executive and decision-making levels down to the service teams, every employee is based in Europe. The entire high-performance environment will be available exclusively in Europe, and no API communication will take place outside of Europe.
All data is stored and processed exclusively within the EU—in compliance with European data protection and compliance requirements.
The service is operated exclusively by qualified personnel based in the EU, ensuring that access and control are clearly regulated under European law.
A self-contained governance structure establishes clear lines of responsibility and provides customers with full transparency regarding processes, access, and operations.
Sovereign by Design
From the very beginning, AWS’s approach has been to design applications and environments to be “Sovereign by Design.” In doing so, AWS develops data protection features and controls within the AWS Cloud in collaboration with customers from regulated industries, such as financial services, healthcare, and government agencies.
AWS Nitro System
AWS regions are supported by the AWS Nitro System, which provides a strong physical and logical security boundary to enforce access restrictions. This ensures that no one, not even AWS employees, can access customer workloads or data. The system’s design has been independently validated.
Full Control
Customers have full control over their data. They determine where their data is stored, how it is stored, and who has access to it. AWS provides tools and practices that enable customers to automate and monitor their storage locations.
Encryption
AWS offers customers features and controls to encrypt data in transit, at rest, and in memory. All AWS services support encryption, and most services support encryption using customer-managed keys.
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is not a separate path, but rather an additional option for customers with specific requirements—without compromising on technology or usability.

As an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner, PROTOS helps companies tailor their cloud strategies to their specific needs. The European Sovereign Cloud is an additional option, not the new standard for everyone.
This is exactly where our approach comes in:
Cloud infrastructure must not only be high-performing, but also compliant and trustworthy in the long term. We support companies as they transition to the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, a solution designed to meet the most stringent regulatory requirements.

Whether you’re restructuring your data management, complying with regulatory requirements, or looking to future-proof your cloud strategy—we’ll support you wherever you are in your journey.
