Challenge:

Our customer currently manages decentralized solutions for mapping rail replacement services in seven regions. The goal is to migrate to a centralized solution to achieve a common standard and create a modern service-oriented application architecture.

Proposed Solution & Architecture:

The new solution is built with a focus on AWS Serverless Services. Users access the web front-end through a central user management provided by AWS Cognito in combination with SSO and Azure AD. Provisioning is done using ECS Fargate and NEXT JS, and content is stored in S3. Lambda functions serve as the interface to external data sources, S3, and the Aurora Serverless RDS database.

Benefits:

The successful implementation of the centralized rail replacement solution has resulted in the following benefits for our customer:

Standardization and Centralization

The decentralized solutions were integrated into a centralized application to ensure a consistent standard.

Modern Application Architecture

Using AWS serverless services enabled a modern and service-oriented application architecture.

User-Friendly Front End

Centralized user management via AWS Cognito, in conjunction with SSO and Azure AD, enabled easy access to the web front-end.

Efficient Data Processing

Interaction with external data sources, S3, and the Aurora Serverless RDS database through Lambda functions improved the efficiency of data processing.

Conclusion:

The application modernization for rail replacement services was a successful step towards improving efficiency and standardization in the management of transport services. The modern architecture and the integration of AWS services have contributed to a future-proof platform. The knowledge gained not only serves the current implementation, but also supports the continuous development of DevOps processes in the organization.
